Under the Sea at Children 1st @ Toton
This week the children have been exploring the topic ‘Under the Sea,’ as part of the ‘Water Week’ theme. They have been learning about different types of sea creatures and water transport along with participating in lots of water based activities.
The children built a boat from building blocks in the garden and went on an imaginary adventure in the boat. On the adventure the children discussed the types of clothing people needed to wear on boats and in the sea (life jackets, flippers, snorkel and swim wear.) We made sure we were prepared for our adventure and each took some binoculars with us to take a closer look at the imaginary excitements along the way.
In the creative zone the children created an impressive under the sea painting. They experimented with mixing different shades of blue on their paper to make wavy sea effects. The children then used cotton buds to tab multi coloured scales onto their fish and placed a photo of themselves onto their painting wearing goggles and a snorkel. The paintings were that impressive some of the parents are framing them to put onto their wall at home!
For water week we engaged in a range of fun and exciting activities, such as making a long water slide from the guttering for little model figures to slide down. We used the jugs to pour the water onto the figures to make them go faster and faster. We enjoyed squirting water out of balloons with small holes in, sprinkling them onto our feet or onto the ground.
Last but not least, the Toton car wash was also open for business and children had so much enjoyment from washing the nursery vehicles and the nursery bikes with big sponges and bubbly water. The cars and bikes were glistening after being washed and the rainy weather didn’t dampen our spirits! In fact we had lots of fun jumping in the puddles.
