Nursery Rhyme Week at Children 1st @ Leek Pre-School
To celebrate Nursery Rhyme Week, the Peter Rabbit and Early Years’ children took part in a range of themed activities. We love sharing rhymes with the children and they have fun joining in with the songs and doing the actions. We use nursery rhymes to support the children’s early development. Not only do our favourite rhymes help with language and vocabulary development, they help with numeracy skills and the children’s social, physical and emotional skills.
As well as singing rhymes, looking at nursery rhyme books and role playing them, the children’s imaginations were sparked through a range of creative activities. ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ was created in salt dough and playdough was used to make more spiders and stars from ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.’ The stars also featured in the messy tuff spot activity.
Last but not least were the ‘Five Currant Buns.’ The children made these in their baker’s shop just like in the rhyme. With weighing of ingredients, mixing and shaping, the buns certainly looked good enough to eat!
In case you’ve forgotten your nursery rhymes, versions of these rhymes and many others are available on YouTube. Have fun!
