The Great Bake Off at Children 1st @ Toton
Here at Toton the children have enjoyed a week of making food, with a different activity taking place each day.
Sandwich Day
First, we sequenced the instructions into the correct order to guide the making of the sandwiches. We then went downstairs and followed the instructions from our book and made the sandwich, selecting our own individual fillings too. The sandwiches were eaten for tea! They were delicious!
Pancake Day
We had our own independent pancake making station and we loved adding our favourite toppings. Best of all though was eating our tasty creations! Hope you enjoyed the photos in our earlier story.
Pizza Day
We designed and made our own pizza. First, we drew the design onto paper using coloured felt pens. We even decided to make a pizza collage using a variety of materials to create the correct texture or shape of the toppings, such as shredded paper for cheese and felt paper for tomatoes. The collages looked amazing and very realistic. We then took our designs downstairs and started to make the dough using the instructions to guide us. We learnt a new method called kneading which we all tried using our hands to work the dough. We rolled the dough out and applied the tomato puree using the back of a spoon and added our chosen toppings. It was finally time to cook so we placed them into the oven. The baking pizzas smelled fantastic. Our pizzas were amazing and extremely tasty and our plates were cleared in record time!
Fresh Fruit Salad Day
We created a fresh fruit salad trying a new range of different fruits such as mango, kiwi, apricots, peaches, raspberries, strawberries, melon, blueberries, apples, mandarins, banana and pear. We selected the fruits we would like to try and chopped them up and placed them into our own fruit salad cup. We then chose the juice we would like to add to our fruit salad whether it be pineapple, apple or orange. We carefully poured the juice onto our fruit ready to eat for our pudding later on.
Cake Day
We ended our week of baking by making cakes. The children were extremely accurate when measuring ensuring that they stopped pouring out the ingredients when it had reached the desired number on the scales. Mr Harvey even joined in with the fun helping to stir the mixture with the children. Once all the cakes were made, they were placed in the oven. After they had cooled we decorated them with butter icing and sprinkles. And, guess what? We all enjoyed eating our lovely cakes later in the day!
The children were so proud of their culinary delights and were rewarded with a certificate for participating in ‘The Great Toton Bake Off!’ Well done everyone!
