World Environment Day at Children 1st @ Derby Road
World Environment Day is an annual event organised by the United Nations to raise awareness about the wonder of our environment and the need to look after it.
To mark this special day, the children at Derby Road have been finding out about what the word environment means and exploring and having fun in their own surroundings.
They took their makeshift cameras outside to help focus on their exploration and were delighted to find different types of insects, including a woodlouse which was brought inside for closer observation through the magnifying glass.
Back outside, the children looked up to the sky to see the shapes of the clouds as they passed over. A walk around the garden gave the children the opportunity to talk about all the plants that are growing. They used brilliant describing words for the plants. Well done everyone!
Our own celebration of World Environment Day showed us the wonder of our surroundings and that it is home to so many tiny creatures.
