Shape Detectives at Children 1st @ St. Peter and St. Paul
The beautiful woodland in which St. Peter and St. Paul is located provides a wonderful environment to support the children’s learning and physical development.
Role playing as ‘shape detectives,’ the early years took to the woods to explore the shapes they could find in the natural environment and to use found materials to make their own shapes. The children looked the part as they used the binoculars to search for shapes. Spending time in the woodland also gave the children the opportunity to clamber, climb and balance, giving each other a helping hand when necessary. It’s also a great place to enjoy a well-earned drink!
The shape search continued indoors when the early years red group helped to devise a worksheet so they could become the very best ‘shape detectives.’ The young sleuths enjoyed exploring different areas of the nursery to see how many triangles, circles, squares and rectangles they could find. The children learnt how to make a tally each time they found a shape. They then had a go at writing the number down using the number line if they needed help.
Whether searching indoors or out, we wish our ‘shape detectives’ the best of luck as they continue their search over the coming days!
