Gardening Club In Action at Children 1st @ Grantham
The children at Grantham have been very busy with their new gardening club, planting an array of shrubs and bulbs in the tractor tyres in our garden.
We all worked really hard to use the shovels to level out the soil between the two tyres. Isla-Grace found a worm in some soil and was fascinated to see it wriggling on Miss Nicola’s hand. We talked about the important role worms have in keeping the soil healthy.
Whilst looking at the different shrubs and flowers, Laurence picked up the lavender and said, “This one smells nice!” We all enjoyed the smell, rubbing the leaves with our fingers to make it more potent.
The children then helped to plant the shrubs and bulbs, wearing protective gloves as some of the bulbs can make our skin itchy. Shay said, “Those bulbs look like onions!”
Alfie enjoyed planting the shrubs, helping Miss Nicola to loosen the roots from the plant. Alfie said, “Now it can drink the water up.”
The children really loved getting muddy and helping Miss Nicola. Well done everybody!
