Exciting Science at Children 1st @ Newark Town
Our Science Experiment week was packed full of exciting activities. The action involved so much valuable first hand experience for the early years and included:
Raindrop Painting
The Skittle Rainbow Experiment
Making Fizzy Puddles
Baking Soda Balloon Inflation Experiment
Conker Rolling Patterns
All these activities prompted lots of questioning with the children being asked to consider the ‘how and why?’ of what was happening. By asking such questions and seeking answers the children’s understanding of their world and how things work is developed.
The children were keen to observe how the colours behaved when they were wet and how the raindrops made such pretty patterns as the colours merged.
Science Week also linked with our Autumn topic. Alicia was delighted to see how the raindrops changed her painting saying, “The colours make the same colours as the Autumn leaves.”
The Skittle experiment saw the children watching closely as the water dropped on the sweets to create a rainbow. Isaac was impressed saying, “Wow! It’s a rainbow!”
Meanwhile, Anthony could not believe his eyes when he saw what was happening during the balloon experiment. “The balloon gets bigger and bigger,” he said.
