Busy Times at Children 1st @ Acorns Upper Tean
January was a very busy month in the barn. Here’s a round-up of some of our activities.
The children took part in an outdoor number hunt and enjoyed a range of woodworking activities with Mr Peter. Everyone is getting really good at using the screwdriver to add wheels, hooks and hinges to the wood.
Then there was a great den making activity. Mr Peter talked to the children about using tools safely as he used the tree cutters. The children were able to walk through the den and were treated to snack and lunch in the den.
Of course, with all the rain there’s been plenty of mud, glorious mud to fascinate everyone. Getting muddy and nearly losing our wellies in the deep oozy mud was great fun! Thank-you Mr Peter for hosing us down, an experience which just added to the enjoyment.
The snow brought such delight as everyone was keen to get outside and play. The children were quick to make snow angels and were soon making marks in the snow. This led to making marks in other ways such as writing our names in flour and using tree branches to make marks with paint.
What a busy month but the well-being of the rabbits has not been forgotten. The children had the opportunity to feel how quickly the rabbits’ hearts were beating compared with their own. This could have been because the rabbits were a little frightened so we spoke about the need to be quiet around the rabbits so as not to frighten them.
Our outdoor learning adventures have got off to a great start in February. We’ll update you later in the month with what we’ve been up to here at Acorns Upper Tean.
