Tortoise Time at Children 1st @ Wragby Road
How lucky we are at Wragby Road to have received a visit from some tropical tortoises. One of our parents, Professor Anna who works with these wonderful creatures at the University of Lincoln, kindly brought them along to show the children as part of our rainforest theme.
On hearing about the visit, the children became very excited and gathered around to think about the questions they wanted to ask Professor Anna. These included, ‘Why do tortoises have shells?’ and ‘What do tortoises like to eat?’
When Professor Anna came, she brought not only the tortoises but some lab coats as well for the children to try on. Anna talked about the tortoises and the differences between them and turtles. The children asked all their questions and perhaps best of all, had the opportunity to observe their visitors very closely.
The visit ended with a feeding session, where the children used tweezers to feed the tortoises apples, pears and strawberries which were cut up very small for them to eat.
The children listened really well while Professor Anna spoke about washing their hands afterwards and the importance of hand washing after touching animals.
Thank-you very much Professor Anna! We would love to see you back in the future.
