Pancake Day at Children 1st Day Nurseries
Pancake Day was a cause for so much activity at our nurseries. Children were making playdough pancakes, rolling them out, and adding ‘toppings’ with coloured paint pens, pretend sauces and counting how many they could flip. Paper pancakes were decorated with toppings and different amounts of toppings were counted to match the number on the pancake.
Pancake themed tuff spots were great for exploring textures and smells and for playing with a range of tools such as whisks and spoons. Then there were oranges and lemons to hold and smell and to explore in the water trays.
Real pancakes were a popular tea-time treat. Earlier in the day some of the children had made the pancake mix, carefully following the recipe and weighing out the ingredients before giving it a good stir. Our nursery cooks were wonderful, cooking up the mixture to make lovely pancakes for tea. Fruity toppings were added, another great opportunity for counting and naming fruits. Some children even had fun tossing real pancakes, though we didn’t eat these! The pancake races were great fun!
We hope you all enjoyed Pancake Day as much as we did!
