National Read a Book Day at Children 1st @ Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Rosemary Lane

National Read a Book Day reminds us of the importance of sharing books with children. Research has shown that even 10 minutes a day of reading and sharing stories with children can have a hugely positive impact on their development, both now and in the future! And, as our nurseries show, reading is such fun and opens the door to so many activities. Here’s a snapshot of how two Children 1st nurseries marked the day.

At Chesterfield the Jemima Puddleducks had lots of opportunities to share books together on this special day. The book corner was made extra snuggly and the books were also taken outside to look at in the sunshine. The babies especially liked the ‘That’s Not My..’ books and enjoyed feeling the different textures on each page.

At Rosemary Lane the children along with the staff thoroughly enjoyed taking their imagination on a ride by reading some of their favourite stories throughout the day. The themes of favourite stories featured in so many activities. In the Early Years’ room the children loved getting super messy in the ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt‘ tuff tray. They had so much fun dressing up as the Gruffalo, and going through the deep dark woods to see what animals they could find along the way!
