Harvest Happenings at Children 1st @ Toton
Early Years have been learning all about Harvest and exploring the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’.
The children received a special letter from the Little Red Hen asking for their help to sequence the bread making ingredients by placing each numbered instruction in the correct order.
Once they had correctly ordered the instructions, they then used them to make their own bread. The children were very good at following the instructions to weigh, sieve, and mix the ingredients together. They were also good at using their hands to knead the dough. Once the dough had been left to rise the children rolled out their own bread rolls and enjoyed eating them with ‘oodles’ of butter at snack time just like the Little Red Hen.
As well as baking their own bread, the children learnt about the ingredients needed to make bread and the process of growing corn and producing bread.
This story also helped the children to think about the benefits of working together and helping others.
Our Harvest Food Collection also prompted us all to think about others. Thank-you to all our families for their wonderful support. All the items collected have been sent to local food banks to support local people in need.
