Bumper Harvest Collection at Children 1st @ Main Street
For Harvest Festival this year we asked our children to bring in donations of food in tins, jars or packets to support the work of The Canaan Trust. As the photos show, we had a fantastic response from our generous families.
A great array of food items such as soup, vegetables, beans, meats, stew, chilli, along with cereals and pasta made this a bumper collection. We also asked for toiletries, including deodorant, soap, shampoo, toilet tissue, toothpaste and toothbrushes and these further swelled our harvest ‘crop.’
The Canaan Trust is an independent charity that provides safe, secure and healthy supported accommodation for the homeless. Although based in Long Eaton, the Trust also serves the needs of homeless people in areas such as Ilkeston, Sandiacre, Stapleford, Sawley, Beeston, Chilwell, and Toton. It’s great to know that our harvest donations will go to help people in these communities.
During circle time the Early Years children spoke about the donations we had received and how the food and other items would help to make life a little better for people who are homeless. The children were really delighted with the number of different items in our collection. The colourful packaging and their contents provoked lots of excited chatter!
Everyone helped to put the items into boxes for them to be transported to the Canaan Trust. With the boxes fully loaded, the children and staff walked around the corner to the Canaan Trust to deliver them. The donations were gratefully received by the Trust who expressed how much these goods would help their charity.
We would like to say a huge thank-you to all our parents/carers for kindly bringing in their donations. We are truly overwhelmed with all your kind generosity, the number of goods received was amazing. We know this is going to make a difference to so many homeless people.
