Focus on Independence at Children 1st @ Buckinghams
The children in Early Years here at Buckinghams are showing a growing independence through a variety of tasks. They enjoy helping to set the tables at dinner and teatime, pouring their own drinks and serving their own food. Some of the children also help to tidy up after by wiping the placemats and brushing up.
They have also been developing their woodwork skills, using different sized screws and screwdrivers to fix on handles and hinges.
Woodwork allows children to become innovators, makers, sculptors, tinkers, engineers, and architects of tomorrow. Our Early Years showed such great concentration throughout their woodwork activities, and they were engrossed in using the tools and completing their tasks.
Following on from all this activity and linking with our ‘Travel and Transport’ theme, we decided to have a Beach Day. This helped to recreate memories of the holidays the children had enjoyed and gave us all plenty to chat about. The children had a fun-filled day, building sandcastles, finding shells, catching sea animals, and paddling in the sea. No wonder, we all love to be beside the seaside!
