Forest Adventures at Children 1st @ Oakwood
Here at Oakwood, we are so fortunate in having such a wonderful woodland setting which enables the children to experience so many varied outdoor learning adventures.
From collecting firewood for the campfire to cook ranchers pie for lunch, to exploring the rich diversity of the forest and playing in areas such as the sandpit and the mud kitchen, there is so much to light the curiosity and imagination of the children. Sometimes it’s nice to wander down and visit the ducks or play golf or enjoy an activity in the log cabin.
The children’s most recent activity was to make ‘hedgehogs’ with grass seeds planted inside to grow into its spikes! The children made the compost up, mixed in the grass seeds, and filled the hedgehogs to make them nice and round. Everyone was excited when it was time to glue on some googly eyes. This really brought the hedgehogs alive. The children even gave them names and are now looking forward to watching those spikes grow!
