Reverse Calendar Appeal at Children 1st @ Shepshed

We are pleased to share the news that the reverse calendar appeal organised by staff at our Shepshed nursery has been a huge success.

Launched in November to coincide with the BBC Children in Need Appeal, parents were invited to donate items of food to support the food bank organised by The Bridge in Loughborough.

Thanks to the kind generosity of parents, carers and staff, the food collection grew steadily throughout the month.

Abbie Walsh, nursery manager commented: “I would like to thank all the families who have brought in food throughout the month of November for our Reverse Advent Calendar Appeal. We have been amazed by the support we have received and have loved seeing the excitement of the children when adding their food to the pile day by day. They loved watching the collection grow!”

Whilst visiting the nursery to collect the donations, Gemma Skevington, Food Poverty Development Officer at The Bridge, talked to the children about how families sometimes needed a little bit of extra help. Gemma was as impressed as the nursery staff with the success of the appeal commenting: “Thank-you so much for leading this collection. The kind donations will definitely make a big difference to families in need in the festive season.”

The older children then had the important job of helping to load the food donations into bags ready for loading into Gemma’s car before it was whisked away to bring some Christmas cheer to local families.
