Science Week at Children 1st @ Toton
Early Years had such an interesting British Science Week full of activities that really encouraged children’s investigation, exploration and thinking skills. They carried out various experiments including making mini volcanoes where they looked at the process of change when different materials are mixed together.
The bridge experiment encouraged children to learn through trial and error by selecting different items to create bridges. The children then used people figures to test out their bridge strength and each time a bridge fell down they persisted to select a different item that would maybe make it stronger.
The children learned about rain and how it is produced through our rain cloud experiment. They were amazed to see that once the foam cloud became full and heavy the rain began to fall through into their cup of water which was representing the air.
The children have also experimented with different materials when creating their own parachutes. They selected different materials to use and showed their independence when cutting and sticking them all together. They then took their parachutes outside and experimented with different items and weights to test its strength and to learn how to make the parachute fall faster and slower.
In addition to all of this, the children were also fascinated when exploring our bubble painting activity. They mixed soap into the paint and then used straws to blow air into the paint and create bubbles. Then they used paper to pop all of the bubbles and created bubble prints.
What a fantastic week we all had experimenting and investigating.
