Sensory Baskets at Children 1st @ Newark Town
Parents will often hear reference to sensory or treasure baskets at our nurseries which prompts the question, “What are they?”
They are simply a basket or container filled with a variety of natural objects and everyday items. These items are all of different textures, weights, colours, shapes, smells and sizes. They are placed alongside the babies for them to explore at their own pace using their senses.
The aim of a treasure basket is to offer a wide sensory experience, promoting curiosity, developing concentration and providing decision making opportunities. This lays down the foundation for independent play. And of course, it’s all jolly good fun!
