Springtime Experiences at Children 1st @ Sheffield - Children 1st Day Nurseries

Springtime Experiences at Children 1st @ Sheffield

Like all our nurseries, we are always busy here at Sheffield presenting the children with a wide range of experiences. Here’s just a selection of activities that have taken place so far this month.

Early Years have been learning about the food groups, and what the different types of food do for our bodies. After a very successful week of learning, we had a special treat for our super stars! Mr Harvey Bear, our healthy eating mascot, paid us a surprise visit. The children were very eager to share their food knowledge with him. Mr Harvey Bear was so impressed with our children that he left us all a little gift!

Another very special visitor came to stay with the Early Years for the day!  Florence, the horsefield tortoise came for a play to help us celebrate World Pet Day and what a fabulous day we all had! Thank-you to Ava and her family for bringing Florence and letting us keep her for the day to learn all about her! Florence even came for a play outside and loved it in the sunshine, eating cucumber and peppers! Before Florence went home, we gave her a bath which she loved! Thank-you for coming Florence, we all had the best day!

The babies in Jemima Puddleducks have been busy exploring the different textures within the world around them by using pretty daffodils to paint and make marks with independently. They had full control over their personal masterpieces by using their strong grasps to hold their own flowers and dip them into the yellow paint before splodging and dabbing the paint covered petals onto the paper using big gross motor movements. Some of our babies used the daffodils to paint with and some used their hands and fingers. It was lots of messy fun! We also spoke about the beautiful daffodils, explored the textures of the petals, stalks and leaves and used our noses to smell them. Well-done to our little artists!

We’ve also  held a nursery council meeting with our new set of councillors! Our councillors had some very important decisions to make about the things we want to improve, change, or see more of around nursery!  What a fantastic job they did! The biggest decision we made however, was choosing which pet we would like to welcome to nursery. We’ll introduce you to our new furry friends over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook page!
