The Radish Harvest at Children 1st @ Acorns Upper Tean
Over the past few months, the children have been busy planting various crops of fruit and vegetables. Recently they noticed that the radishes had begun to pop up over the top of the soil which means they are ready to pick. The children were very excited and were soon ready to help Miss Claire and Mr Peter harvest the crop of radishes at our allotment.
Some of children thought that they were turnips at first. After taking the radishes into the barn, we began to have a close look at the leaves, stems and roots. The children took it in turns to smell the radishes and we talked about washing them before we could eat them to get rid of any germs.
Once the radishes were clean, we carefully cut them up and then sat on the trailer to taste them! The children decided that they tasted ‘peppery.’ Some of the children didn’t like them but Bonnie and Charlie thought they were delicious!
We can’t wait to try the other fruits and vegetables that are growing in the allotment and poly-tunnel!
