The True Story Of Humpty Dumpty at Children 1st @ Newark
As part of our ‘People Who help Us Topic’ we have been exploring the role of the Police in helping our community to be a good place to live and in detecting crimes. What better way to understand this than by investigating an incident involving Humpty Dumpty.
Humpty Dumpty suffered a tragic accident whilst building a wall and the children were tasked with finding out more about how this incident occurred. Just how did Humpty come to fall off the wall and break into pieces? The children found clues such as hand prints and foot prints, along with clothes and kitchen utensils.
Miss Sophie was ruled out for as Ava said, “Your foot is too small.”
Putting all the evidence together led the children to identify Mr Dan as the culprit who had accidentally knocked Humpty off his wall. “That’s Mr Dan’s from his kitchen,” said Raif.
Mr Dan said he was sorry for being so clumsy and he helped to put Humpty back together.
This was a great activity which enabled the children to practise their turn taking skills, and to make marks with meaning on their clipboards where they wrote their incident reports. Of course, in their search for the culprit they were using language to match the clues to people so footprints were either too long or too short and so on. The task of finding the culprit gave a real purpose to the children’s learning. We hope you enjoy looking through the photographs of our investigation.
