Time to Explore at Children 1st @ Toton
Across our nursery the children have been busy exploring and what a fun time has been had by all!
The Benjamin Bunnies delighted in the sensory experience of discovering the yellow ducks in the cold mushy yellow ice.
Bobtails were busy discovering what autumn had brought to the garden. They were out and about finding a large number of pine cones which had drifted down from the trees. They found the texture of the cones very interesting as they gathered them up and placed them in our collecting box. Sitting in the box with the cones was great fun too!
Our Early Years have been exploring the topic of ‘Harvest’ and the story “The Little Red Hen.” The children used this traditional tale to look at the process of making bread and received a special letter from the Little Red Hen. The letter asked for the children’s help to put her instructions back into the right order and then they used them to make their own bread rolls.
The children were very good at recognising numerals to order the instructions correctly and following the instructions to make the bread. They helped to weigh, pour and mix the ingredients into a dough and showed very good kneading skills. We then left the dough for some time and the children were amazed at how much it had risen!
All of the children then shaped their own bread rolls and once baked, they enjoyed eating them with oodles of butter with their tea.
