Water, Water Everywhere at Children 1st @ Acorns Upper Tean
Our Early Years children have been doing some brilliant problem solving whilst playing with the water.
They started with water in one tray where the children did lots of splashing, feeling the different brushes and sponges and used the pots to do a filling and emptying movement. Miss Jess then got another tray and spoke to the children about how we could make the water travel from one tray to the other.
Together the children helped each other and found different ways of doing this. Some used the tube which they balanced against one of the trays and tipped the water down watching it come out of the bottom and fill the tray on the floor. Other children used the pots and carried the water this way.
Then once the tray on the floor was getting full and we could see the water was about to go over the sides we spoke about what we could do next. “Move the water again,” said Joseph, so together we used all the different water toys to collect the water from the tray on the floor, these included pots, syringe toys and even the sponges. Then once the first water tray was filling up, we started the process again. Great teamwork Early Years!
Our Early Years children have also been doing a very important job of helping Mr Peter water our planters this afternoon as the hot weather was making our crops dry out. In these planters there are lots of different fruits and vegetables such as onions, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, and strawberries. The children helped to plant these crops when they were just tiny seeds and now they were able to see how well their crops were growing.
When all the watering was over, we discussed how we would like to come and help pick the fruit and vegetables and it would be a good idea to have these for our snack times at nursery.
