Wellies on Wednesdays at Children 1st @ Newark Town

Newark Town’s first ‘Wellies on Wednesday’ was a great success. All the rooms in the nursery planned an age appropriate activity that involved wellies, water, mud or paint.

Bobtails were busy stamping in paint and making prints on paper. Rosie watched Miss Katie make marks on the paper and she began to copy, giggling away to herself.

Benjamin Bunnies were very excited to be jumping in muddy puddles and observing the marks they made. Some of them were really brave and tried it barefoot.

Peter Rabbits went on a nature walk to find some natural objects. Then they decided to see what happened when they put them in the water tray and talked about whether the objects floated or sank. Olivia found a stone. “It’s splashed us lots, it’s at the bottom now,” she said.

Early Years showed their strength with some great welly wanging.  Miss Megan showed them how it was done and then the children counted how many steps Miss Megan had thrown the welly.  They all lined up and waited for their turn and showed how good they were at turn taking and step counting!

Our ‘Wellies on Wednesday’ was tremendous fun and brought everyone outside to enjoy the benefits of our huge garden. We’re looking forward to having more themed days to focus on a range of areas of learning in fun and exciting ways.
